ABOUT

The GMAC 2nd Unit provides training and outreach in moving image education. It is a unique community based initiative that provides practical opportunities for people under represented in the screen industry. Every training programme is bespoke and tailored to suit the aims, needs and abilities of each group.

The 2nd unit is funded, supported and works in partnership with First light, Glasgow City Council, The Princes Trust and The Robertson Trust.

••• NEWS UPDATE •••

Film Nation

GMAC's 2nd Unit were commissioned to produce four short films for the London 2012 Olympics and Paraolympics. The films were shot over the summer holidays with twenty young people. They have been completed and are now awaiting their release in which they will be screened in the build up to the games on the big screens around the UK and the Olympic stadium.

Get Started In Media

GMAC's 2nd Unit are now in their third successful year having completed two courses for The Prince's Trust of Get Started in Media in 2011 so far. Working with young people aged 16-25 not in training, education or employment. The practical media programme runs in over four weeks and is delivered in partnership with STV. The majority of students are now on a progression path heading towards a positive destination.

The Summer Art Rammy

GMAC 2nd Unit facilitated packed workshops as part of the Trongate 103 Learning Community Summer Art Rammy 2010. Two short documentaries were created as part of the project that runs in partnership with Glasgow Print Studio, Street Level Photoworks, Project Ability, Russian Café - Gallery Cossachok, Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre and New Voices

GMAC 2nd Unit delivered workshops in radio journalism and video journalism for The Red Cross - New Voices. The mixed adult group came from various backgrounds including refugees and asylum seekers and created a series of short pieces to complement their quarterly magazine addressing social issues.

One Scotland Many Voices Film Festival

GMAC 2nd Unit hosted the 'One Scotland Many Voices Film Festival' during Refugee Week Scotland for the fourth year in 2010. The festival showcases a range of short films, with live entertainment and discussions, to celebrate the creative talent and diverse voices of Scotland.

First Light Studio Films

In partnership with First Light, The GFT and Platform, GMAC 2nd Unit completed three short films; The Night Barber, Honest and Change. The films were created by over 40 young people with the majority coming from the Easterhouse area of Glasgow. The young people developed their films with their script mentor, Linda Campbell and drama tutor Suzanne Adamnson, and through masterclasses with industry professionals including Bernard MacLaverty, Eleanor Yule and George Geddes. The finished films premiered on the red carpet at the Glasgow Youth Film Festival 2010.

Festivals

Three GMAC 2nd Unit short films have been triumphant in selection for screening at The Co-operative Film Festival taking place in Bradford during October 2010.
